Moving the PCE install to another drive on the same computer

This process is commonly undertaken when the available disk space is exhausted on the partition used by PCE server or new hardware such as a SAN is being added for storage of PCE data.

On the existing PCE Server computer;

Below are the steps to move the PCENT folder from one location to another. For the purpose of this example:

Source path = C:\inetpub\wwwroot\pcent
Destination path = E:\pcent

Step 1.    Go to the C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\pcent folder.

Step 2.    Un-share the pceclient and pcemsi folders.

Step 3.    Go to ‘Start’, ‘Run’ and type CMD, then press ‘OK’ to open the command prompt

Step 4.    Enter the following commands:

cd C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\pcent\pceservice  <<enter>>
pceservice –pceuninstall  <<enter>>

On a 32 bit server machine
C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\InstallUtil.exe /u "C:\inetpub\wwwroot\pcent\pceconsole\Reports\PCERPService\PCERPService.exe" <<enter>>

On a 64 bit server machine
C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\InstallUtil.exe /u "C:\inetpub\wwwroot\pcent\pceconsole\Reports\PCERPService\PCERPService.exe" <<enter>>


Step 5.
   
Now re-start the PCE Server computer.

Step 6.    Once you have logged back in go to ‘Start’, ‘Run’ and type NET STOP IISADMIN then press ‘OK’.

Step 7.    The following screen will be displayed. Together with the command prompt:


Do you want to Continue this operation[Y/N]

Step 8.    Select Y (yes)   <<enter>>

Step 9.    Copy the PCENT folder from C:\Inetpub\wwwroot to E:\ (the new location).

Step 10.     Please also take a back-up of the PCENT to another location.

Step 11.     Now restart the PCE Server computer.

Step 12.     Once you have logged back in go to ‘Start’, ‘Run’ and type INETMGR, then press ‘OK’.

Step 13.     In IIS Manager, under Default Website right click PCESERVER and then select ‘Properties’.
The following window will be displayed:

    

Step 14.     In the Virtual Directory tab, to the right of the Local path property box, browse to E:\pcent\pceserver

Step 15.     Click on ‘Apply’ then ‘OK’.

Step 16.     Now repeat for the PCECONSOLE virtual folder under ‘Default Website’.

Step 17.     Open the registry and navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Security Software Systems\Policy Central\PCE Server

Step 18.     Double click on the ServerInstallPath key and edit the value to E:\pcent

Step 19.     Click OK to save the new value.

Step 20.     Now navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Step 21.     Double click on the PCE Server key and edit the value to E:\pcent\pceserver\Updater.exe

Step 22.     Click OK to save the new value.

Step 23.     Now re-start the PCE Server computer.

Step 24.     After logging back in, rename C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\pcent to C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\oldpcent

Step 25.     Now re-share the folders pceclient and pcemsi located at E:\pcent (everyone, full control)

Step 26.     Go to ‘Start’, ‘Run’ and type in CMD, then press ‘OK’ to open the command prompt

Step 27.     Enter the following commands:

cd E:\pcent\pceservice   <<enter>>
pceservice –pceinstall   <<enter>>

Note : assuming your new drive for PCE is E: so please change as required;

On a 32 bit server machine
C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\InstallUtil.exe /i "E:\inetpub\wwwroot\pcent\pceconsole\Reports\PCERPService\PCERPService.exe" <<enter>>

On a 64 bit server machine
C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\InstallUtil.exe /i "E:\inetpub\wwwroot\pcent\pceconsole\Reports\PCERPService\PCERPService.exe"
 <<enter>>

Step 28.     Now restart PCE Server computer.

 

The migration process is complete.
